Stand Out from the crowd at your next Exhibition or Trade Show

With today’s ever-growing dependence on digital media, it’s easy to focus all your time and energy on your brand’s online presence. However, when it comes to exhibition stands and trade shows, a lot rides on your physical and offline appearance. After all, we’re all human and the value of face-to-face interaction is still considered the foundation of great business. The trouble with exhibition and trade shows, however, is that you’re certainly not the only business in town. That’s why it’s important to make sure you can capture your audience’s attention quickly and effortlessly, and what better way to achieve that then using the exhibition space around you. So, we’ve gathered up some top tips on how to ensure you and your brand stand out from the crowd at your next exhibition or trade show.

  • Location, location, location - book early to secure a great spot. Print out a floor plan of the exhibition space and take the time to figure out which location will serve you best. This could be by an entrance or exit, slap-bang in the centre, or perhaps a more tactical spot next to the restrooms.

  • Be sure to organise the setup and dismantling of your display - your stand is a lasting investment and you don’t want to damage it unnecessarily. Here at Redblu, we’re more than happy to help with the site services of not only a stand we have provided you with, but also stands purchased elsewhere - as long as we understand what’s involved. However, if you’re confident enough to go it alone then be sure to do a practice build first. Not only will this help familiarise yourself with the process, but it also allows you to get a feel of the space you’ll be occupying so you can plan for what to include.

  • Don’t be afraid to go bold. Remember, your visitors will likely follow the ‘goldfish’ attention span, spending an average of 30-seconds to 3-minutes at your stand before wandering elsewhere. Instead of allowing your customers to get distracted after 30-seconds by the big, shiny stand across the way, aim for those full 3-minutes and be that big, shiny stand.

  • Don’t feel you need to stick to two dimensions, curved display surfaces and clever use of lighting can be a great way to really grab the attention of passers by.

  • Get interactive - whilst flashing lights and loud music can sometimes send people running in the opposite direction, incorporating technology and social media into your display can give it that extra edge. Think screens that make use of projection technology to display live scrolling tweets or Instagram tags, plus, why not encourage guests to contribute for their own 15-seconds of fame.

  • Take advantage of the large surface area an exhibition stand can offer, it’s an age-old trick but remember to have your brand’s most important and engaging features at eye level. Also, don’t over or underwhelm your visitors with text, the stand is like your shop window, stick to the necessities.

  • Use your space wisely, make sure there’s enough room for visitors to explore your product without having to fight the crowds for elbow room. Be careful not to make your stand look too empty though, it’s all about balance. Plus, don’t forget everyone is going to be lagging those big goody bags around too.

  • Choose a font and colour scheme combination and stick to it. Although a mixture of prints and contrasts may seem exciting at first, a simple colour scheme can actually have a professional edge over something that’s too fussy with patterns.
